1. Who we are

Payout Holdings, Inc. ("Payout," "we") runs the Payout app and payout-inc.com. Payout helps groups collect money for a shared purpose.

This notice explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices.

2. What we collect

Account information

  • Your name, email address and/or phone number.
  • If you sign in with Apple or Google, the name and email address they share with us.

Sign-in codes

  • When you sign in by email or text, we store a scrambled (hashed) copy of the one-time code, plus your email or phone number, so we can check it.

Rooms you create or join

  • The room's name, type, description, location, dates, cover photo, shares, payment plan and fee choice.
  • The invite link and room code.

People you invite

  • If you invite people from your phone's contacts, the app reads your contacts on your device so you can choose people.
  • Only the name and phone number of each person you select is sent to Payout to create their invite.
  • We do not upload your whole contact list.

Payment information

  • Payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number goes to Stripe, not to Payout.
  • We store Stripe's reference IDs, payment amounts, payment status, and payment-plan schedules.
  • For payment plans, Stripe saves your payment method, and we keep Stripe's reference to it.

Organizer verification

  • Organizers verify their identity and bank account directly with Stripe. This may include legal name, date of birth, address, the last digits of a Social Security number, and bank details.
  • Stripe collects this information. We receive the account's status, and may receive the bank name and the last four digits of the account.

Device and usage information

  • IP address, device and browser type, and sign-in sessions.
  • Basic app usage events, which we use to improve the app.

Photos

  • If you choose to add a cover photo or receipt, the app asks for access to your camera or photos.

Support messages

  • What you send us when you contact support.

We do not collect your date of birth or home address ourselves.

3. How we use it

We use this information to:

  • create and secure your account
  • run rooms, invites, payments, payment plans and withdrawals
  • send sign-in codes, invites, receipts and account notices
  • prevent fraud and handle disputes
  • comply with law
  • provide support
  • improve the app

We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for targeted advertising.

4. Who can see what

Anyone with a room's link or code can see the room's public details:

  • name, type, description, location, dates and cover photo
  • each person's share, the fee and the payment plan

They cannot see who is invited, how many people are invited, the room's total or who has paid.

The organizer sees:

  • the room's balance and transaction history
  • a "who's paid" list: each invited person's name, their share, and whether they have paid, are on a payment plan (and how many installments are paid), have a payment issue or haven't paid

Other contributors do not see your payments.

5. Who we share it with

  • Stripe: payment processing, saved payment methods, organizer verification and payouts. Stripe's Privacy Policy covers how Stripe uses this information.
  • Apple and Google: if you choose to sign in with them.
  • Google (Places): the text you type into the location field when you create a room is sent to Google to suggest places.
  • Email and SMS providers: to deliver sign-in codes and invites.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers: to run our service.
  • Professional advisers and authorities: when the law requires it or we need to protect rights and safety.
  • A buyer or successor: in a merger or sale, under this notice.

These providers may only use the information to provide their service to us.

6. How long we keep it

We keep information while your account is open, and after that as long as we need it to:

  • complete payments and payment plans
  • resolve disputes
  • prevent fraud
  • meet tax, accounting and financial-records duties

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app (Account → Delete account). This signs you out on every device right away. We complete the deletion within 30 days.

We keep records of completed payments and anything we must keep by law.

8. Your rights

Depending on your state, you may have the right to:

  • access, correct or delete your information
  • get a copy of it
  • appeal our decision on a request

Email support@payout-inc.com to make a request. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

9. Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encryption in transit, hashed sign-in codes and access controls. No system is completely secure. If a breach affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.

10. Children

Payout is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

11. Where your data is processed

Payout is for U.S. users, and we process information in the United States.

12. Changes

If we change this notice, we will update the effective date. For material changes, we will tell you in the app or by email.
