The money waits in the room. It sits in the room's own account, apart from the organizer's personal account, until they withdraw it.
Nobody anonymous can collect. The organizer verifies their ID and bank before a room can take a single payment.
The fee is on the screen first. Everyone sees their share plus the 5% + 50¢ fee before they pay. Nothing gets added later.
Payments processed by Stripe. Payout never sees your card number.

Venmo moves money. Payout runs the collection: one link, everyone's share, payment plans, and a live list of who's paid, so you're not cross-checking apps.
Payout is free to download and free to create a room. Each payment has one service fee of 5% + 50¢, shown before anyone pays. On a $100 share, that's $5.50. The organizer chooses who covers it: contributors pay it on top, or it comes out of the room's total. The fee includes card processing; there's nothing extra on top.
You'll see exactly who hasn't, before you book anything. Payout doesn't cover missing shares, so collect first, then spend.
Organizers verify their identity with Stripe, the same as any service that pays money out to you. Contributors just pay.
